Recently, the Jewish community of Khmelnytskyi received a wonderful gift from their brothers and sisters in Dnipro. On the eve of Yom Kippur, at the Jewish Community Center of Khmelnytskyi, a ceremony was held to receive a beautiful new Torah scroll, presented by the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro Shmuel Kaminetzky and several generous donors.
The gift was a gesture of support and encouragement to the Jewish community in Khmelnytskyi, which along with other communities around the country, has grown significantly as people seek spiritual and emotional support during the ongoing crisis. Rabbi Yosef Teitelbaum of Khmelnytskyi and other leaders in the community, along with our staff and volunteers, provide aid to hundreds of families, both longtime members and newcomers, some of whom have resettled from other parts of the country.
The festive event included singing and dancing and a celebratory meal. Each guest was invited to write a letter in the Torah before the scroll was wrapped in its embroidered cover and carried into the synagogue by a large procession.
The wonderful gift will be treasured by the Jewish community of Khmelnytskyi for years to come.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
