Over the weekend, Ukraine was hit with missile and drone attacks that resulted in many deaths as well as significant damage to utility infrastructure. Ten people were killed in Kyiv, while the attacks also targeted Lviv and Odessa. As a result of the destruction to both private and state-owned energy plants, the government implemented emergency restrictions to last at least through Monday.
Millions of people are once again facing days in the cold and dark, with the loss of electricity and water. Thankfully, generators are able to keep hospitals open as well as provide heat and light to gathering places including community centers, schools and synagogues. Many children will learn in emergency shelters this week that have been set up to function as complete classrooms, with furniture and equipment, while keeping the children safe.
