In preparation for his Bar Mitzvah on March 9, Benjamin De Silva Simon completed a unique mitzvah project, making use of his exceptional artistic skills as well as his compassion for others.
Benjamin, along with his 5 siblings, has been a religious school student for many years, and increasingly he has served as a leader and role model for the younger children. With the Purim holiday just a few weeks after his Bar Mitzvah, Benjamin decided to help the younger students make masks that would be proudly displayed at the synagogue. Benjamin collected donations in connection with the project, to support the Jews of Ukraine.
Benjamin's enthusiasm combined with his patience and skill made the undertaking an enormous success. The religious school students had a fabulous time creating the masks, and members of the congregation marveled at the final products! The donation to JRNU that was generated by the project will be used to deliver Purim packages to the Jews of Ukraine.
We are grateful for Benjamin's commitment to make this Purim special for his local Jewish community, as well as for the Jews in Ukraine. Benjamin is surely off to a good start as he transitions to adulthood. Mazal Tov!
