Bittersweet Day in Ukraine

SEPTEMBER 4TH 2024

In Odessa, the Day of Knowledge was celebrated like never before!

Hundreds of community members and dignitaries came to mark the 25th anniversary of the city’s remarkable Jewish educational institutions, which have played a major role in the revival of Judaism across the region.

In other parts of Ukraine, air attacks in Lviv hit close to the synagogue. Sadly, 7 people died including a mother and her two children; 38 people were injured.

Throughout the event in Odessa, graduates and students shared memories and heartfelt thanks to the founders—Rabbi Avraham and Mrs. Chaya Wolff—and to the teachers and school directors. They spoke of the warm and caring environment, and the high level of education provided by these dedicated professionals.

Historical photos and video clips from the past 25 years were displayed, along with congratulatory messages from graduates around the globe. Several moments were dedicated to prayers for peace and safety in Ukraine and throughout the world.

During the event, five current students celebrated their Bar Mitzvahs, and a wounded school graduate read a chapter from the Book of Psalms.

“This is only the beginning,” said Rabbi Wolff. “Twenty-five years is indeed a long time, but in our eyes, we have only just begun the journey. Every single child in Odessa and southern Ukraine deserves an excellent Jewish education, infused with ideals, a sense of inspiration, and a genuine and uplifting connection to their roots and heritage. We plan to continue making this aspiration a reality.”

We are honored to support the work of Rabbi and Mrs. Wolff along with community leaders throughout Ukraine, saving lives and restoring hope.

Together, we Save Lives and Restore Hope!
