JRNU CEO Shlomo Peles, along with Director of JRNU's Israel Office Chaim Friedman and several Chabad Rabbis in Ukraine, hosted a delegation led by Israel's Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combatting Antisemitism Director General Avi Cohen-Scali, that traveled to Ukraine. The purpose of the visit was to learn about the ongoing crisis and the humanitarian work being done.
Members of the delegation visited several of our camps in Kyiv that the Ministry supports through Mosaic United. The delegation also met with local leaders to see first-hand the extent of ongoing aid provided by JRNU. Members of the delegation visited one of our schools in Kyiv along with an after-school program for Jewish kids attending public schools. The visitors travelled to Anatevka, a settlement built for Jewish refugees where hundreds of families reside temporarily.
Finally, the delegation also visited Babi Yar, where more 33,000 Jews were killed in 1941. Director General Avi Cohen-Scali placed a wreath on the graves and together with Rabbi Peles and Rabbi Yonatan Markowitz, read a chapter of Psalms in memory of those who died.
