September 1st is called the Day of Knowledge and is a national holiday; it marks the first day of school. Students dress up in nice clothes and bring flowers to their teachers; young students get to ring a bell announcing their return to the classrooms.
In three weeks, more than 3,000 children will return to Jewish schools supported by JRNU, in communities across the country, from Uzhhorod to Zaporozhe, and everywhere in between. Parents are struggling to afford food and other necessities—there is no money in the budget for school supplies or backpacks, let alone new clothes or shoes. And yet for children, these things are important: new markers and notebooks, pens and backpacks make the return to school extra special!
It doesn't take much to bring joy and happiness to the children of Ukraine, whose lives are filled with fear, anxiety, stress, sadness and loss. Just $50 buys a backpack filled with supplies for one child; $100 buys a new item of clothing and shoes.
Your help matters. Together we can bring smiles to the faces of thousands of Ukrainian children!
