Over this past week Ukraine suffered some of the worst attacks since the crisis began. In addition to the tragic loss of life and injuries to people, there was significant damage to the energy infrastructure across the country, causing widespread power outages. In Zhitomer, in the Western part of Ukraine that has been relatively safe over the past 2 ½ years, a missile strike left the entire city without electricity. Fortunately, the synagogue in Zhitomer is one of the places we installed an industrial generator last year. The staff and volunteers turned on the unit and welcomed people into the synagogue.
In 2023, we installed 150 industrial generators, in cities and towns from Dnipro to Lviv, thanks to generous support from the Jewish Federations of North America and other organizations. We hoped that the generators would help the communities survive the winter, and that by spring or summer the crisis would be over. Sadly, the tragic situation in Ukraine has not improved, and the generators continue to provide critically needed power to schools, community centers, synagogues and more.
With your help we continue to save lives and restore hope.
