Tonight marks the beginning of the festival of lights, a holiday of joy and celebration of a miraculous triumph. In Ukraine and around the world, candles will shine and dreidels will spin, as children sing songs, eat treats and open gifts.
For the first time, this year people in Ukraine have access to a wonderful video that describes how to light Hanukkah candles and explains the significance of the holiday. The presentation has been available for years in many languages including Hebrew, English, Russian, French, and German; now it is available in Ukrainian as well.
Thanks to the work of our rabbis, staff and volunteers, and the generous support of our donors, Hanukkah 5784 in Ukraine will be a celebration to remember. As we celebrate with our families and loved ones, let us keep in mind those who are struggling-- in Ukraine, Israel and elsewhere in the world. And let us hope that next year at this time we will have peace. Chag Sameach!
