On International Women's Day we honor the millions of women in Ukraine and around the world who work each day to help those in need. We especially recognize the Chabad emissaries, Shluchos, who move to the farthest reaches of the world to build and support Jewish communities. They counsel and mentor community members, educate children and adults, oversee institutions and programs, plan and create community events, and open their hearts and homes to all. These women serve as role models, inspiring and encouraging their younger peers and the next generation.
For the past two years, the shluchos in Ukraine have worked tirelessly with the rabbis, staff and volunteers to protect and preserve their communities, from transporting hundreds of orphans to safety to providing critical medicine to homebound Holocaust survivors.
As a result of the war and the conscription of men aged 18-62, the women of Ukraine have shouldered tremendous responsibility for their families, as well as friends and neighbors in need. At JRNU we rely on many women to support our relief efforts, coordinating shipments of goods and planning the distribution in cities across the country. In addition, they oversee the extensive work in local communities, identifying and responding to the individual needs of each family.
At this year's conference of the Chabad emissaries, the theme was “to increase light to illuminate the darkness.” There could be no more fitting title for the work they are carrying out in Ukraine, in Israel, and around the world.
We are grateful for the unbounded dedication and commitment, infinite capacity, endless energy and vast knowledge of the women in Ukraine and around the world who continue to support our work and help the people of Ukraine. With your help we save lives and restore hope.
