Jews in Ukraine Celebrated Simchat Torah with Heavy Hearts

OCTOBER 9TH 2023

Jews across Ukraine celebrated Simchat Torah with heavy hearts, as news spread of the indescribable tragedies in Israel. The thousands of participants, many of whom have relatives and friends in Israel, dedicated their prayers to the safety of Israel, recovery for the wounded, and the memory of those who were killed.

No one could be prepared for these catastrophic events, particularly as the first night of Shemini Atzeret was being celebrated with joy and festivity. The next morning, people awoke to the shocking and horrifying news, and began to comprehend the extent of the tragedy.

Local rabbis are providing spiritual guidance, and professional staff and volunteers are providing emotional support to community members suffering from stress and trauma out of concern for their loved ones. Additionally, we are working to share information with community members about the status of their relatives in Israel, many of whom have been called up to serve with the IDF.

We stand by the people of Israel, sending condolences to the many families who have lost loved ones, and we pray for victory against terrorism and hate.

Together we Save Lives and Restore Hope!
