JRNU funds medical aid to thousands, including two women named Galina and young Kira:
Galina, 64, has been fighting breast cancer for several years. She has a disabled son who she raises alone. The war forced Galina and her son to flee Kharkiv, leaving everything behind. In her new home of Dnipro, JRNU and the Jewish community fund Galina’s medical treatment including costly medication.
The cost of medication for two months: $147
Galina, relocated to Rivne from the Donetsk region. She and her son were forced to flee their home when a rocket hit the entrance to their building, damaging their apartment. Additionally, her son worked for the Ukrainian police, placing him in grave danger.
Galina suffers from cancer and requires a hormonal drug to prevent the development of additional cancer cells. The course of treatment is 5 years, one tablet per day; Galina has been taking the medicine for 1 year.
The cost of medication per month: $154
Three year old Kira recently suffered through a bout of pneumonia while her sister Hana was diagnosed with acute laryngotracheitis and allergic dermatitis. With 4 children, the family is always hit with medical and medication bills they just can’t afford even though the father is working (the mother is on maternity leave).
