Large Scale Attack Leaves Ukrainians in the Cold and Dark

JANUARY 15TH 2025

On January 14 and 15, Ukraine suffered some of the largest attacks of the past three years, leading to emergency power shut offs in 6 regions. Explosions were reported in Kharkiv, Lviv, Khmelnytsky, and Ivano-Frankivsk. A 52-year-old man died, and a 74-year-old woman was injured in Kharkiv Oblast; eight people, including two children, were injured in Donetsk, and seven people were injured in the city of Kherson and outlying areas. Heavy damages were sustained to gas and energy facilities, while several residential and industrial buildings were destroyed. Prior to the air raids, warnings had been issued nationwide which undoubtedly helped avert more significant loss of life and injuries.

Once again, the generators we installed two years ago have proven to be lifesaving. The frigid winter temperatures and lack of power pose serious risks to people, particularly the very young, elderly and disabled.

JRNU leaders, staff and volunteers continue to carefully monitor the situation all across the country and provide assistance and aid to those in need.

Together we save lives and restore hope.
