Last night, a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv killed at least one person and wounded 12 other people.
The attack knocked out heat to 630 residential buildings, and many medical facilities, schools, and kindergartens. Falling missile debris caused damage and sparked fires around the city. Two dozen high-rise office buildings, a landmark church, and the Kyiv National Linguistic University were impacted.
Miraculously, the local synagogue suffered only minor damage when a bomb hit just a few hundred feet away. The impact from the blast wave was so strong, it caused the walls to shake in nearby buildings, including the Rabbi’s home. Outside, sirens were blaring as first responders raced around the city to put out fires and rescue injured people.
The lock on the main door to the synagogue broke under pressure from the blast. The windows in the front of the building that were coated with protective film two weeks ago remained intact. Several windows in the back of the building were shattered. The adjacent school and home were not harmed in the attack.
We are grateful that our community did not suffer more damage during this latest round of attacks. Most importantly, we are blessed that no reports have been received of community members killed or injured.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to people in Kyiv and other parts of the country who were less fortunate. JRNU leaders, staff, and volunteers continue to work tirelessly to lend support of all kinds to those in need.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
