The past few weeks have been especially busy as our rabbis, staff and volunteers prepare to bring the High Holidays to Ukraine! Rosh Hashana gift boxes with honey cakes, honey, Jewish calendars, grape juice, children's books and holiday handbooks will be distributed to more than 17,000 households all across Ukraine. We are also providing parcels filled with special food products so families can enjoy a holiday meal--many items were sourced locally, in Ukraine. The honey came from a factory in the small village of Krasilovka, outside of Kyiv; chicken came from Rekitanya, beef from Tatryka and Barzevica, and honey cookies were baked in Zhitomir. For Sukkot, packages from Israel with Lulav, Etrog, Hadasim and Aravot will be provided. Additionally, we are shipping food to communities across Ukraine who will hold communal celebrations for those who are unable to celebrate the holidays at home. All of these deliveries will allow 50,000 people to celebrate this special time of the year, even as they endure enormous hardship.
Many Ukrainian Jews are among the millions of displaced persons, living in temporary housing with no source of income and no way to provide for their daily needs. These wonderful gift packages will allow them to celebrate important traditions that go back thousands of years, providing joy and hope for better days to come.
Thanks to our generous donors who allow us to save lives and restore hope, each and every day.
