Today in Kyiv, President Zelensky visited the Chabad Simcha school, marking the first time any Ukrainian President visited a Jewish Day School.
Rabbi Mordechai Levenharts and his wife Devorah welcomed President Zelensky, who joined the students in their mock Seder and witnessed the many other impressive educational activities.
President Zelensky’s visit was particularly timely given the upcoming Passover holiday as well as the anniversary of the birth of the Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory.
Mrs. Levenharts described the historic visit:
“It was an extraordinary and very special day for the children and all of us at the school. The children enthusiastically explained the various traditions and practices of the Seder and had an opportunity to ask the President questions. It's hard to express just how meaningful and emotional the visit was for the children and all of us, occurring on the day of the Rebbe’s birthday, and just before the holiday of freedom, when we celebrate the history of the Jewish people.
The children showed President Zelensky all around the school including the emergency shelter where we spent part of the morning, in response to air raid sirens. We are grateful to have had this opportunity, to be here in Kyiv operating our school with children who want to share in and carry on our proud traditions, and to our supporters throughout the world; most of all, we are grateful to the Rebbe, who has made it all possible.”
With your help we continue to save lives and restore hope.
