Eyeglasses are an essential part of everyday life for millions of people in Ukraine. Since February 24, 2022, more than 10 million Ukrainian citizens have been forced to leave their homes; many people had their glasses destroyed or lost in the process. It is hard to describe the impact on the children and adults who suffered this misfortune. The inability to communicate with their environment is scary, stressful and frustrating.
Over the past year, more than 100,000 Ukrainians have received free glasses, both readers and distance glasses, donated by the organization RestoringVision. The reaction among the recipients has been overwhelmingly positive and the demand for glasses continues to grow. The JRNU staff who are distributing the glasses said it best:
"There are no words to describe the excitement of us all when they get their hands on the new glasses and start seeing again."
