Sukkot Shalom In Ukraine

SEPTEMBER 28TH 2023

In communities across Ukraine--Chernihiv, Sumy, Odessa, Kyiv, Zhaparozha, Cherkasy, Kremenchug, and many others, structures have been erected, gift boxes with the four species have been distributed, and people are ready to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot.

The beautiful sets of ceremonial items-lulav, hadas, arava and etrog-originated in Israel, and were brought to Ukraine through the incredible efforts of Rabbi Ehrentrau, of Zaporozhye.

The journey was long and difficult, spanning many hours, on planes and trucks, crossing borders, and clearing customs. Once inside Ukraine, cars were loaded up with boxes and driven from city to city, criss-crossing the country. In each locale, the rabbi took charge of the special packages and distributed them to grateful members of their communities.

Rabbi Ehrentrau and all the Chabad rabbis in Ukraine were determined to provide their communities the opportunity to observe the holiday traditions. With support from JRNU staff and volunteers, and donors from around the world, Sukkot will be joyous a time in Ukraine, despite the ongoing crisis.

We wish you health and happiness this Sukkot and throughout the year; may the open sky above your Sukkah remind you to keep an open heart. With your support we continue to save lives and restore hope.

Together we Save Lives and Restore Hope!
