The war in Ukraine has had a devastating impact on the country, causing death and injuries, widespread displacement of civilians, destruction of infrastructure, severe damage to the economy, and a major humanitarian crisis with effects felt globally due to disruptions in food and energy markets.
Impact of the war on Ukraine:
Thousands of people killed and many more injured, including 2,000 children.
10.6 million Ukrainians have been displaced both internally (3.9 million) and as refugees (6.7 million, primarily in Russia, Germany, and Poland), with many facing food insecurity and limited access to healthcare and other essential services.
Ten percent of the housing stock has been destroyed.
An estimated 1.5 million kids are at risk of long-term mental health consequences.
As a major grain exporter, disruptions to Ukraine’s agricultural sector have contributed to potential food shortages in several parts of the world.
Over the past three years, we have helped thousands of families whose lives have been upended; many have lost family and friends. The humanitarian aid we provide sustains them physically, along with medical and mental health care. The schools, youth groups, summer camps and community activities keep children engaged and maintain some normalcy during times of chaos and fear. The ongoing outreach and support provided by local rabbis has been essential for sustaining the spiritual and emotional well-being of individuals and families. The resilience of the Jewish community across Ukraine has been remarkable; it is an honor to provide encouragement and support in every way possible.
