Hundreds of Jews from Odessa and the surrounding area came together for an historic celebration at the Beit Menachem synagogue in Fontana, led by Rabbi Mendy Wolff. In honor of two new Torah scrolls generously donated to the community, a “Hachnasat Sefer Torah” ceremony was held, beginning with the traditional writing of the final letters in the scrolls. The program included dancing with the new Torah scrolls, alongside the synagogue’s existing Torah scrolls, and a wonderful meal, where rabbis, community leaders, and family members shared words of blessing and inspiration. The Chief Rabbi of Odessa, Avraham Wolff, emphasized the spiritual significance of the gathering: “When a new Torah scroll is brought into a synagogue, it is a rare and momentous occasion that fills the community with light and spiritual joy. The Torah is not just a book—it is Divine wisdom, a connection between generations, and a source of life for the Jewish people.”
This event provided an important opportunity for members of the Jewish community to come together and lend one another encouragement and support. Recognition was given to the soldiers who lost their lives in the current conflict, and the families they left behind. We are grateful to generous individuals who donated the Torah scrolls and made the event possible.
The strength, determination, and resilience of the Jews in Odessa and throughout Ukraine have helped them survive these difficult times. We pray for better days ahead.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
