Tonight, Jews around the world will celebrate the holiday of Tu Bishvat, the day that marks the beginning of a “new year” for trees, and the season when trees in Israel begin their fruit-bearing cycle. It is customary to celebrate the holiday by eating fruits, including grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates (referenced in the Bible in connection with Israel).
In Ukraine there is little to celebrate this week, as the cold winter weather continues, along with air raid sirens and attacks. The support we provide to the people is more important than ever, to prevent individuals from losing hope and giving up. We are determined to assist with daily needs including food, clothing, household items and social services. We work closely with the local rabbis and and other leaders, who are steadfast in their commitment to preserve the community institutions and networks they spent decades building.
We are grateful to our generous donors from across the globe, including every continent and many different countries, who remember the Jews of Ukraine, giving support and encouragement of better days ahead. With your help we continue to save lives and restore hope.
