In 2022, more than 15,000 Jews fled to Israel from Ukraine, to escape the invasion and ongoing crisis. While incredibly difficult to leave behind family, friends, and belongings, the Ukrainians were grateful to be in a safe place, with assistance adjusting and acclimating to their new surroundings. No one could have anticipated the unimaginable horrors and violence they are experiencing today.
Hardship and tragedy is nothing new to the Jews of Ukraine, dating back to the 9th century. In the twentieth century, they endured pogroms carried out by Ukrainian nationalist forces after World War I, and some of the most brutal acts of the Holocaust occurred in Ukraine including the famous killing of more than 33,000 Jews at Baby Yar, on September 29 and 30, 1941. Large numbers of Jews left Ukraine for Israel after the fall of the Soviet Union, and then again in 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea.
We hope and pray for the safety of everyone in Israel and in Ukraine. We continue to provide humanitarian aid of all kinds to the people of Ukraine, including emotional and spiritual assistance in the face of the most recent ongoing crisis in Israel.
Together we save lives and restore hope.
