Winter Arrives In Ukraine

DECEMBER 5TH 2023

January is the coldest month in Ukraine, but December isn’t far behind. Today the high temperature in Kyiv is 28 degrees Fahrenheit, and in Lviv it’s a degree colder. Many families struggle to buy food for their families, and they can’t afford the additional cost of heating their homes. Warm clothes and blankets are critical for survival, but many people have none, as they fled their homes with just the clothes on their backs.

In order to ensure sufficient energy is available for hospitals and other key infrastructure, the Ukrainian Government is imposing rolling blackouts in cities across the country. The 150 industrial generators we installed last year have been instrumental once again, to provide light and warmth in schools and other communal buildings. Over the past few weeks, we have distributed critical items to tens of thousands of people: winter clothing, bedding, heaters, and food, along with very special Hanukkah gift boxes.

As the world focuses on new and emerging crises around the world, we must not forget the people of Ukraine who continue to struggle and suffer, for almost two years. The bitter cold and harsh weather create additional risks for the very old and very young. Please help us ensure all the Jews of Ukraine survive another winter. With your support, we save lives and restore hope.

Together we Save Lives and Restore Hope!
