Winter Has Arrived In Ukraine, And So Has Our Help

DECEMBER 13TH 2024

Winter has arrived in Ukraine, with daily temperatures averaging between 23 and 36 degrees in much of the country; the mountainous regions are colder. Many streets are filled with unplowed snow, making it difficult for people to go to work and children to get to school. The power supply and other critical infrastructure facilities continue to be targeted by missiles and drones, resulting in frequent and extended outages: heat, sewage and sanitation and electricity are disrupted on a regular basis leaving people in the cold and dark, with no way to communicate with their family and friends.

Efforts are being made to repair power stations and energy facilities as quickly as possible. In addition, reinforcements are being added to protect against further attacks. Some hospitals installed solar panels to ensure continued power if the power plants they depend on are attacked.

Ukrainians cannot survive the winter without heat and power, and they need help with food, warm clothing and household items. We are doing everything we can to help.

Over the last few weeks, we have distributed critical winter items to thousands of families along with food parcels and hot meals. We are also helping communities offset the high costs of fuel needed to operate the industrial generators used for the warming centers. JRNU leaders, staff and volunteers are in constant touch with members of the community to understand and address the most pressing needs, ensuring no one is forgotten or left behind. The challenges are immense, and we are grateful to all our supporters who make our work possible.

Together we save lives and restore hope.
